Due to space limitations only GRAPE members are listed in this category. Long term care insurance is the only medical insurance that pays for "custodial" services. Custodial care includes assistance with daily living activities or supervision as a result of Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. Custodial care id designed to maintain function, as opposed to curing or improving the person's health conditions.
When deciding whether to buy long term care insurance, objective advice is essential. Your advisor should:
- be certified by the NYS Partnership for Long Term Care
- have access to a variety of companies an be independent of all of them
- have a long term care specialist as as resource
Long Term Care Insurance is not for everyone. For those with few assets and low income, or numerous assets and high income, it may not be right. Discuss the option with your financial planner or elder law attorney.
